Why should the Devil have all the Good Music (a personal oppinion)

Many Years ago Larry Norman had a song called "Why should the Devil have all the Good Music?" and to this end I'm going to look at the comparison between modern rock music and the type of music many churches use in their times of celebration.
To this end I ask you to watch the following two video clips and consider the format they both have. The first one is from a concert by 'A Bullet for my Valentine' a secular rock band and the other of an event called 'Worship Central' a Christian celebration of music in worship.

So what do they have in common?
1] Their presentation is very much the same
2] Their musical styles are the similar
3] Their mix of loud and soft music is present

So why is it that it is felt the need to present the gospel in this way?

I and I know a number of song writers feel that this is the gospel that will attract the younger generation into the 'church' environment, and will bring them to salvation.
But why the instruments of a 'rock' band?
Well the instruments that are used in a 'rock' band have their foundations in the Bible, the 'word of God'.

DRUMS : These are mentioned in the Old Testament part of the bibe, in the book of 1Samuel; chapter 10; verse 5 that reads; They'll be going along prophesying while others are walking in front of them, playing small harps, small drums, and flutes.

STRINGED INSTRUMENTS : Or could they be Guitars?  These are also mentioned in the Old Testament part of the bible, in the book of 1Chronicles; chapter 25; verse 1 reads;  David and the temple officials chose the descendants of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to be in charge of music. They were to praise the LORD by playing cymbals, harps and other stringed instruments. Here is a list of the musicians and their duties:

CYMBALS : Again these are mentioned in the Old Testament part of the bible, in the book of 1Chronicles; chapter 15; verse 16 that reads; David then told the leaders to choose some Levites to sing and play music on small harps, other stringed instruments, and cymbals.

SINGING : This part of a Rock Band performance is mentioned a lot in the bible; In the Old Testament part of the bible, in the book of Isiah; chapter 57; verse 19 reads; start singing my praises. No matter where you are, I, the LORD, will heal you and give you peace.
In the New Testament part of the bible, in the book of Revelation; chapter 4; verse 8 reads; Each of the four living creatures had six wings, and their bodies were covered with eyes. Day and night they never stopped singing, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord, the all-powerful God, who was and is and is coming!"

These references conclude to me that the rock band can be pefectly used in the life of the Christian Family and in day to day forms of worship.
But let me say, that there is still a place for the old forms of worship

Let me have your coments please and let me know your feelings on the subject..................

  1. All true - Ali... But, your quote was the name of a song by the late great Larry Norman. Awesome song. Sir Cliff was probably quoting Norman.
At our church we need two worship services, so we have a contemporary (light rock with guitars and a 16-piece orchestra) at 8:30, then traditional (organ, hymns, chancel choir) at 11:00. both very legitimate, both saturated with the spirit, both authentic worship.
God is all about creativity, not the particular form so long as it's all about Jesus, not the instruments...
    Peace - DEREK
