After a pause, when not a lot was happening and life was very mundane, it's time to depart to Amsterdam with Miracle Street to assist in the running of Mission Amsterdam. So on the 11th of September we're at Dover Eastern Docks for the 1400hrs Norfolk Line sailing to Dunkirk and o
ff on a 1000 mile round trip to Amsterdam and back for a weekend event. As ever the crossing was uneventful, as was the trip to Amsterdam, which had us arriving in the dark which was a bit difficult to find our precise destination, but even so we arrived and were parked up by 2200hrs european time and being taken to our accomodation at the YWAM base called De Poort where we were to be based for the whole weekend. After a good nights sleep we're soon at breakfast at 0830hrs and ready to get out to the site to get set up. Our driver had us out to the truck in good time but it was when we got there did we find out that no-one knew where the site was and so this became a major headache. When we tried to contact anyone who might have known the site address we only get their voicemail and so we have to hang around at the local Pentecostal Church to await replies to the various calls we've made. This particular church had a
very interesting history, in it's original life it was a night club and had for some reason either been closed down or closed for it's own good. So the interior needed little development to get it into church use and it's a very nice interior. The front of the church was a stage, with the old bar, now the servery at the back of the room. A balcony was all round the top of the room giving a nice place to sit round a table or up at the ledge against the wall. In the back was a nice kitchen and either side of the stage were rooms for special meetings or as was originally dressing rooms. With a maximum of 350 persons the place was beautiful. See the photo album for photos of the church interior to the left of this entry. Eventually the event organiser Stephan arrived and took us out to the housing estate where the site was to b
e and there are the other guys with all their gear waiting to set up. So as soon as we're in position we get going on the stage setup, which does not take very long at all with four persons getting the job done. Then the techies get going with the sound and lighting rigs with that setup taking half the time again. Soon the sound checks take place and we're on the go only an hour later than originally planned. With kids enjoying dancing on stage and Steve entertaining them with illusions, escapollogy and sheer magic they all enjoy listening to the gospel message as well. The evening winds down with an American Band playing a very layed back set the day ended up a great success. After taking an hour and a half to clear up and pack down, it's look for the nearest garage and hope we could get the truck to it before the diesel ran out. This we did and then it was a drive across town to get back to De Poort and a very necessarry bed and sleep. Once we got back it was oly a matter of minutes before I was dead to the world after syching up for Sunday and a new venue. Well Sunday started out with breakfast at 0830hrs and then waiting for the driver who's going to show us the way to the next venue which is on the other side of the city and took twenty minutes to get to. When we get to the site it's all systems go to get the stage set up and then it's over to the techies to get started. During this time conversations are had between me and others which ends up with me feeling ill for the whole of the event so what went on was unknown to me thoughout. Eventually with a thumping head from the bass of the music I only just manage to get things packed up and wer're soon on the way back to De Poort and as soon as we're parked up I'm straight in and into bed and asleep before my head hits the pillow. So Monday comes and after an early start we drop Steve off at Schipol airport and then down to Dunkirque for the 1400hrs Norfolk line sailing to Dover. An uneventful trip back and then when we're back on UK soil things start to go wrong with the truck. The temperature of the water in the engine started to get hotter than normal and so we had to stop and investigate
why this was happening. On topping up the water system suddenly a jet of water comes out of the top of the radiator and on checking finds the safety catch has rubbed a hole in the radiator. So we had to take the safety catch off and try and plug the hole to get us home. With the aid of a screwdriver and some chewing gum we manage to make the hole small enough to plug with chewing gum and then we were able to proceed at reduced speed. Eventually we get back after topping up up a few times and then I pick my car up from the farm and get home as quickly as possible. On arrival home I'm straight into bed and then asleep very quickly. On the whole the weekend went well and God was very good to us who were involved.
